  1. If you get a job offer to teach at the Graded School in São Paulo you will be very lucky. It is without a doubt one of the best schools in Brazil and mostly likely one of the best schools in South America. While not a perfect situation (but what is?), this is a solid school that will allow you to grow as an educator. The main pros are that the staff and administration are very supportive. Your fellow teachers will be very good at their jobs, and they will be very willing to offer you advice and support. You will be working with top-notch people. You will also be able to go to educational seminars and have lots of great resources to help you in the classroom. The salary is excellent and the benefits package is wonderful. And the weather is great! Never particularly cold, and never particularly hot. As to the cons: You are paid in the local currency which is not really stable. While you may be given the impression your salary will be adjusted if the currency declines, the reality is that you won't be. So what can seem like a great salary when you arrive can suddenly just become average. You'll also find it difficult to get anywhere from São Paulo. The roads are packed and flights and trains are very expensive. You can go to the local beaches, but that's all that's really practical except during the six-week semester break. Rio is a short flight away. The rest of Brazil is easy to get to as well but doing any city on a quick weekend is just not practical. However, Brazil is one of the most amazing countries and to live in the country and not explore it from top to bottom is insane. All in all, the positives outweigh the negatives. But several people I worked with became very stressed about the currency issue. So be warned if that is something that will end up bothering you. As the overall package is excellent, most people look beyond this as they know it is hard to find a better environment to teach and impossible to find such wonderful colleagues.
  2. Hi. I just found this site through a friend. I wish you great luck. I have been working in Sao Paulo for 2 years. I just extended for another year in my school. I love the city (at times). This is my 8th country to teach.
